If living close to the water is a must on your Northern Virginia house-hunting list, consider exploring the charming town of Occoquan.

Located 22 miles south of Washington DC, Occoquan is known to be the boating center of the D.C., area because of its numerous marinas. Over 100 slips are available for rent between the seven docks that sit within a two-mile radius of Occoquan.

The historic small town, whose name means “at the end of the river”, offers residents and visitors plenty of opportunities for kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, fishing, and boating on the Occoquan River.

After a day on the water enjoy exploring the unique and locally owned shops including art galleries, antique shops, boutiques, jewelry stores, fine dining and more.

A couple of miles east of downtown is the 350-acre Occoquan Regional Park which provides ample opportunity for those looking to hike, bike, go fishing or paddle the day away. The park is connected to the Fairfax Cross-County Trail and Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail, two of the state’s most diverse, scenic, and historical trails.

Greater Occoquan, and the surrounding area, is known as Lakeridge and is home to a variety of shopping, recreation, and entertainment as well as single-family homes, townhomes, and low-rise condos.

The big yearly draws to Occoquan is the Arts & Crafts shows in June and Sept., Winterfest, and the Annual Chocolate Walk in Feb.

Occoquan in minutes from the I95 HOT Lanes and numerous commuter lots as well as SLOG lines. The VRE provides service between Woodbridge and Union Station and L’Enfant Plaza.

Coming via boat? Occoquan Waterfront has a small dock area that runs behind Mill Street in the historic town of Occoquan for those looking to dock and shop or eat.

"I can’t give enough kudos to the Give Back Team and our agent AJ. We had a very short amount of time to find a house we love and close. AJ made sure that we utilized the little time we had seeing every house we could see. After driving down what seemed like every dirt road in VA, we found a house  we loved and because of AJ and the Give Back Team we now call it our home!”
