    COMMUTING OPTIONS FROM STAFFORD
    Stafford offers multiple options for those who are looking to save time/money, those who prefer not to drive alone, or those looking to pick up extra riders so they can avoid the congestion of 95 and drive in the HOT Lanes.

    VRE
    The VRE provides commuter rail service from Stafford’s Brooke Station and Leeland Rd. Station to Alexandria, Crystal City and downtown Washington, D.C.

    The Fredericksburg Northbound line heads North from Stafford starting around 5:12 a.m. and continues until approx 8:00 a.m. Southbound trains head back to the Stafford area as early as 1:00 p.m. and service to Stafford ends around 6:45 p.m.

    SLUG LINES
    If you have never lived in Northern VA you may never have heard of the term Slugging. Slugging is an organized system where people commuting to Washington DC may stop to pick up other passengers (even though they are complete strangers) or those who don’t want to drive can get a ride to/from DC and the Pentagon area.

    The most popular spot for Slugging in Stafford is the Mine Rd. Lot, just south of Garrisonville Rd. Slugging from this lot begins around 4:30 a.m. and is generally full by around 6:15 a.m. There are currently two lines: one for DC “downtown” destinations and another for the Pentagon/Crystal City.

    The Route 610 Lot (aka Staffordboro) commuter lot is located across from Lowe’s. Slugs stand near the bus stop shelter near the center of the commuter lot and wait for a ride. Best Hours from this lot: 5:45 a.m. – 7:30 a.m. If no slugs are available, an option is to drive to Potomac Mills or Horner Road for possible riders.

    COMMUTER LOTS
    Many residents ride share or vanpool to their office or nearby. Stafford offers 3 commuter lots for riders

    Courthouse Road Park & Ride Lot. This new commuter locate is located at the intersection of Courthouse Road (SR-630) & Wyche Road (SR-702) and has approximately 600 parking spaces.

    Mine Rd. Lot, just south of Garrisonville Rd.

    Route 610 Lot (aka Staffordboro commuter lot) is located across from Lowe’s north of Garrisonville Rd.Over 2,000 parking spaces + SLUG lines and bus lines.

    OMNIRIDE
    On November 4, 2019 Northern Virginia’s OmniRide Express bus began service in Stafford. Two routes originate at the Staffordboro Commuter Lot to the Pentagon and Washington DC

    I95 HOT LANES
    3 or More Riders = Free
    All you need is three or more people in your car with your E-ZPass® Flex set to HOV mode. If you ride a motorcycle there is no toll and no need for an E-Z Pass®.

    2 or Less Riders – Cost is based on “Dynamic Pricing” or supply and demand. Rates for those traveling with less than 3 riders are posted on the road signs. And even before hitting the road, you can plug your entry and exit points into the Express Lanes mobile app for an approximate cost of your trip.

    95 Express Weekday Lane Openings:

    Closed for reversal – 12am to 2:30am (except on Monday)
    Open northbound – 2:30am to 11am
    Closed for reversal – 11am to 1pm
    Open southbound – 1pm to 12am

    Saturday:
    Open southbound – 12am to 2pm
    Closed for reversal – 2pm to 4pm
    Open northbound – 4pm to 12am

    Sunday:
    Open northbound – 12am Sunday to 12am Monday
